I once met a friend and batchmate in a mall, and naturally, I invited him to the second general assembly of the batch. He said he is too shy to attend the meetings because he felt he wasn’t contributing to the batch’s cause. I was a bit surprised because I didn’t know he feels that way, and so I am creating this post for him, and all batchmates who feel the same.
How can one really help in the preparation of this year’s grand alumni homecoming where our batch is the host? Here are just some of the ways I think where we can contribute to the batch.
Be there
If you remember during our school days, even just by having a perfect attendance, you will pass the subject. I guess that is still true now. Because the first step in being able to help is by being present during meetings, so you will know the plans and actions being done, participate in the brainstorming, and maybe voice out some of your ideas that would otherwise be unheard of because you weren’t there.
So please, be present on our next meeting on February 27, 2010 at 6:00 PM at the Angeles City Lunch Restaurant in McArthur Highway, Balibago, Angeles City.
Bring a friend
You were able to lure… err, I mean convinced friends to attend all those “business opportunity” seminars where you signed in before, if you use that “convincing” power to influence a batchmate to attend the meetings, that would be a great help for the batch.
If only each one of us could bring in another batchmate to come to the general assembly, it would double the attendance in no time and perhaps we could make more things happen.
Be an echo
If we cannot convince our friends to come to the meeting, at least keep them updated of the developments – what’s happening, who’s doing what and where, and what are the next plan of actions. It could also be a perfect time to suggest to him how he can help. There’s no better motivation for a person than to feel that he is needed.
And let us not forget, while this is already the age of internet and facebook, there are still some people who has no access or are not really into surfing the web. Let us reach out to them, and keep them updated as well.
Be ready to pay
Let’s face it. An empty sack would not stand, and an organization without funds would not run. A very sensitive subject really, because many refused to attend meetings, and even the homecoming itself, because of the costs involved. But if we really think about it, we spend a lot of money on other unimportant things. Contributing to the cause of the batch is money well spent.
And please, don’t let “having no money” be the cause for not attending the meetings, everything can be worked out. That is why “Be there” is put on the top of the list, because your presence is of utmost importance to the batch.
These are but some of the ways that we can help the batch in the upcoming grand alumni homecoming. If you want to know how you can participate and contribute to success of the batch’s hosting, please come on our second general assembly on February 27.
See you there!
