The President’s thank you speech

The 19th HAU Grand Alumni Homecoming was definitely a success by all standards. Nonetheless, it was not without glitches, which is understandable for an event of such magnitude.

One of those considered was the time. As much as we want it to be an event that would flow smoothly, there were circumstances beyond the control of the host batch and all who were involved in organizing the event.

There were extended speeches and other “unscheduled” presentations. As such, the time calculated for the entire event was not enough.

To keep the program from extending further and continue entertaining all alumni who came far and wide for the homecoming, Primemovers’ President Roland Buan did not deliver his speech anymore, and instead proceeded with the live band performance.

Still, through this blog, Facebook, and all other channels available, Roland Buan (or Pres as we call him), would like extend his heartfelt gratitude for all who supported and attended the homecoming.

And here is the thank you speech of President Roland Buan.

Where do we go from here?

After the successful hosting of the 19th HAU Grand Alumni Homecoming, what’s next? Where do we go from here?

From the looks of it, it seems our work was already done. We have accomplished what we have prepared and waited for in 25 years. That’s it?!

Honestly, I believe our work has just began. Greater challenges await.

One of those challenges is for us, the Primemovers 85, to keep the fire burning. To keep this group intact, solid, and still raring to go.

The accomplishments of President Roland Buan is unprecedented and one tough act to follow. I hope we can repay his efforts with our commitment to keep the batch growing.

We won’t be hosting the alumni homecoming again, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be supporting future homecomings again. We would… WE SHOULD.

But the homecoming is but one part of the group’s mission. Primemovers 85 is more than just homecoming. Primemovers exist and thrive outside our Alma Mater.

There are works outside the reunions. We are an organization with legal identity, and as such, we can do so much… we WILL do so much.

LET US KEEP THE FIRE BURNING!

We are not yet through… we need to keep on going, we need to keep on growing.

BE PROUD! YOU ARE PRIMEMOVERS!

An event that took 25 years in the making!

After long months of preparation, the day of the grand alumni homecoming finally came.

But to say that it was a year-long preparation is an understatement, this homecoming is an event that took 25 years in the making. Yes, the host batch, Primemovers 85 waited for 25 years to be able to host the Holy Angel University Grand Alumni Homecoming.

And Batch 85, led by its president Roland Buan and vice-president Lyn Yalung-Sicat made sure the event would turn right.

Unfortunately, the event did not turn out right… it turned out GREAT!!!

The fourth quarter

If this were a basketball game, it would have been the fourth quarter, because we are now almost at the final stretch of the preparation for the grand alumni homecoming.

Literally speaking, we are actually at the fourth quarter of the year. And it’s less than three months before all Angelites will be coming back home to where it all started.

There were meetings, planning, deliberations, scouting, and more planning and more meetings. The officers, committee chairpersons and members have been seeing each other almost every week since the start of the year, making sure not to leave any stones unturned to make this homecoming a success.

Do you still remember our teachers?

The preparation for the grand alumni homecoming this December is indeed very taxing. There are lots of works to be done, lots of things to consider. Believe me, it’s not a walk in the park.

But I didn’t say it isn’t fun, in fact, it is fun! Very, very fun!

That is especially true when you have batch mate John Jack Wigley in attendance.

During the last meeting of the programme committee chaired my Manny Ocampo, and Jack is one of the member, we were rolling on the floor laughing, as he delivered his perfect impersonation of some of our high school teachers – impromptu!

It’s more than just a Primemovers thing

For these past months, I’ve been writing here about our different activities, developments, plans and call for support as we trek the road towards the grand alumni homecoming this December.

You’ve seen the disco party, the badminton tournament, and schedules of meetings and other events – featuring our batch, the Primemovers 85.

We, the Primemovers are proud and honored to be the host of this year’s alumni homecoming. But putting the HAU High School Batch ’85 up front and center of this grandiose celebration would mean an absolute failure on our part.

We want this to be a homecoming wherein the main focus of the celebration will be the alumni who will attend the event.

Because the homecoming is more than just a Primemovers thing.

Are we there yet?

Six months quickly came to pass, and we are now on the second half of the year. And with barely 5 months to go before the Grand Alumni Homecoming, the question is “Are we there yet?” Are we prepared? Is everything already settled?

Hardly. There are still a lot of works to be done.

For someone who is outside and looking in, it is easy to say that there is really nothing being done. But believe me, the Board and concerned members are doing their best to make this alumni homecoming a successful one.

But like I said, there are still a lot of works, and I mean LOT OF WORKS to be done. And this post is an appeal to everyone to step up, be concerned, be counted. We need all the help we can get.

Dancing to the music of the 80′s

As promised, it was a night of 80’s music, with hit songs from Madonna, Tears For Fears, Michael Jackson, and other icons from the most colorful decade of music, playing all night long.

We arrive as early as 8:00 p.m. in order to set up for the registration. Party people started arriving at 9:00 p.m., pouring in until the wee hour of 1 a.m.

It didn’t take long for the crowd to warm up to the music and the venue, as they soon started dancing while reminiscing the “years that was” through the music that was playing. And yes, our batch mates still have the endurance… and the knee, to withstand long hours of dancing.
